About Word One
Word One (aka Grey Poltergeist) has become one of the fastest growing names in hip-hop over the past year. He has opened the door for change in the music industry with his “Underdog Movement” by creating music and a movement that caters to your average, everyday citizen. Traveling the country, doing everything from drug dealing to owning his own business, recording artist Word One is ready to tell the world his story of being an UNDERDOG. Born in Los Angeles, California; although, raised mostly in New York and Jacksonville, Florida, Word One would tell you that he’s the “man from nowhere”, because of all of his travels in between and all of the different cities that he’s lived in. Throughout the years, Word One has managed to build a reputation, as well as a fan base across the country-before putting out an album under any major record label. Word One is well known for his strong voice, lyrical concepts and wordplay, punch lines, versatile rap delivery, and of course, his infamous logo. He can pretty much sound flawless over any type of beat, whether rapping fast, slow, or choppy, depending on the song. This artist is also very popular for the way that he dresses. He feels that his clothing must match from the shoes to the hat. “Outfits matching from the feet to the fitted/ That includes the jeans and the du-rag wit it/ Gold chain and a gold watch included/ Ain’t nobody spitting rhymes like I spit it” – Bad Mu****a. Word One is definitely an old school type, with a new school style. It’s not hard to see the support that this artist has generated lately. Fans proudly wear his logo on their shirts at his shows, and even post photos of themselves wearing them. In a lot of cases, it has been known that Word One has occasionally pulled a larger fan base to shows than the major headliners who come on immediately after him. After negotiations and development deals since 2011 with Deep Entertainment, Gracie Distribution, Universal, 101 Distribution, and Island Def Jam, Word One finally landed a record deal in August 2012 with former Sony Executive A&R Carlos “Sir Los” Jordan’s NuCompass label, which includes a production deal with J&S vibes (made of Jasdeep and Sir Los). Sir Los’ production credits include singles like “Coconut Juice” by Tyga, “King Wizard” by Kid Cudi, Soundtrack for the film “Battle of the Year (starring Chris Brown) and more. Together, they’ve released Word One’s first single “Act Up” which is one of the biggest singles to start 2013 by an artist who isn’t a well known name. His last single "Do My Own Thing" ft. Dorrough Music is still in rotation on radio station across the country and has even made a few top 10 countdowns as well. Word One has worked with artists such as Kid Cudi (Pursuit of Happiness), Lil Ru (Nasty Song), Fat Pimp (Roll Me Up), Dorrough Music (Ice Cream Paint Job), Kid Frost (La Raza), Loverance (Up) and other established artists. He has even opened up for artists such as Tyga, Loverance, Destiny’s Child, Project Pat, Pinky XXX, Diamond and Princess (of Crime Mob), Bohagan, Fat Joe, DJ Unk, Party Boys, Trick Daddy, Trina, Mann, Maino, Goodie M.O.B., Troop, Joe, Mya, and several other big names. Be on the lookout for big things from one of the biggest names in hip hop to represent the El Paso and Las Cruces area. Welcome to the #UnderdogMovement. Stay in tuned to what's going on with newly-signed hip hop recording artist, Word One. Official spokesman of the "Underdogs" #UnderdogMovement
