Crash Island

Crash Island play dark tropical indie rock, where gently swaying palm trees and dreamy summer days go hand-in-hand with rippling stormy nights and treacherous undercurrents. The band formed at the end of 2011, when Spanish frontman Guillermo “Gizmo” Varillas moved to London from Wales and met up with French guitarist and keyboard player Jeremy Levy. Hard-hitting, London-born, South African-grown drummer Yusuf Laher helped widen and bolster the band’s developing sound. As did French bassist Jérôme Allaguillemette, with his imaginative, multi-layered musings. Allaguillemette was eventually replaced by South African-German bassist Chris Behrens, who brought even more urgency and a direct punk attitude to Crash Island’s lush dreamy nightmares.
