About KOLME

Ruben Alves Born in 1976. Starts piano studies and music education at the age of 5. General course of music from the Gregorian Institute of Lisbon, National Conservatory Official Program and Jazz training at Barcelona’s Berklee College of Music. Classes with: Fátima Fraga, José Bom de Sousa, Mário Laginha, João Paulo Esteves da Silva and Sarah Barsh. Teaches piano at the Academy of Music Amateurs and at Musicentro / Salesian College among others. He was resident pianist and teacher for the TV programs Operação Triunfo1 and 2, OT2007 and OT2010, RTP channel. Participation in numerous television programs as a pianist, TVI, SIC and RTP channels. Ruben has several projects of his own, including Ruben Alves Ensemble (with Paul Gaspar, Pedro Carneiro, Massimo Cavalli and Alexander Frazão), Ruben Alves trio (with José Salgueiro and Yuri Daniel), duo with Pedro Carneiro, and Kolme (with Carlos Miguel and Miguel Amado). Participates in other projects, live and on record, among others with: Amélia Muge; Ana Free; André Sarded; António Chainho, Camané, Fausto; João Afonso, Mafalda Veiga, Paulo gonzo; João Gil; Ana Lains; Gil do Carmo, Janita Salomé; Rui Veloso; Filipa Pais, Cristina Branco; Carlos Martins; Mariza, Sérgio Godinho, Zeca Medeiros, Sara Tavares, Nuno Guerreiro (also as Musical Director), Paulo de Carvalho, etc. Solo discography: “Clara Madrugada”, by New Discovery Records, production by Pedro Osório, with the participation of Ricardo Rocha and Naná Sousa Dias; “A paixão” – Ruben Alves plays Rui Veloso, by Valentim de Carvalho with the participation of Rui Veloso and Os Corvos; “Súbito”, by MBari, sponsored by Fnac Portugal. - - - MIGUEL AMADO Born in 1973. He studied classical guitar with prof. Piñeiro Nagy, at the Academy of Music Amateurs, having completed the 6th grade of the respective course. Miguel has however been devoting himself more fully to the study of jazz, and electric bass. Studied at the Hot Club of Portugal’s Jazz School and has also studied particularly with teachers like Pedro Madaleno with whom he studied improvisation, composition and arrangement. Miguel attended several workshops by important foreign musicians like Phil Markowitz, Ed Neumeister, Arnie Lawrence, Bruce Barth or Henry Martin. Gives private lessons for many years, taught the disciplines of electric bass and combo at the jazz undergraduate and the University Lusíada and at Musicentro / Salesian College and has also taught numerous workshops and master classes in the area of improvised music. As a leader, has recorded two CDs to date "Mensagens de Fumo", 2004 by editora Escutar, and "This is Home", 2010 by TOAP. Participated in many recordings as sideman, especially the CDs "A Ópera Mágica do Cantor Maldito" by Fausto Bordalo Dias, "Acústico" by André Sardet (7 times platinum), "O Baile Popular" by João Gil and João Monge, among others. Plays with several other improvised music projects such Pedro Madaleno Trio (with Pedro Madaleno and Bruno Pedroso), Ficções, Under Pressure, Spill (Project by guitarist André Fernandes), Hot Clube Septet, Rodrigo Gonçalves quintet or LUME (Lisbon Underground Music Ensemble). In other musical areas has played with names like Fausto, João Gil, Lúcia Moniz, André Sardet (as musical director), Nuno Guerreiro, Lena D'Água, Anabela Duarte or David Ripado. - - - CARLOS MIGUEL Born in 1971. Began his music studies in 1989 at the Hot Club of Portugal. Carlos attended several workshops by Karl Berger, Don Famularo, Sonny Emory or Greg Bissonete. Professional musician since 1991 has since accompanied artists such as Rui Veloso, Dulce Pontes, Sara Tavares, Jorge Palma, Mafalda Veiga, Luís Represas, Paulo de Carvalho, Carlos do Carmo, Joel Xavier, Kepa Junkero, Carlos Nunez, Pedro Abrunhosa, Sérgio Godinho, Rui Reininho, João Gil, Mariza, Tito Paris, Nuno Guerreiro, Dani Silva, Joana Rios, André Sardet, Filipa Pais, Vanessa da Mata, Gilberto Gil among others. Has performed in Jazz Festivals at Matosinhos, Lagoa, Portimão, Portalegre, Tondela, Seixal, Caldas da Rainha, Festa do Jazz S. Luis, Curitiba(Brasil), Madrid, Valladolid, Vilnius, where Carlos played with “Ficções”, “Politonia”, “Melissa Walker”, “Laura Fiugi”, “Septeto do Hot Club”, “Jeffery Davies”, “Maria João e Mario Laginha + Big Band do Hot Club”, ”Rodrigo Gonçalves+Jesus Santandreu”, “Laurent Filipe Big Band”, ”Nana Sousa Dias”, ”António Palma”, “Tim Tim por Timtum”, ”Aduf by Zé Salguiro and Zé Peixoto”, ”Alexandre Dinis Quarteto”, ”Filipe Raposo Trio”, ”Yuri Daniel Band”, “Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa” and ”Orquestra Clássica da Madeira”.
