About Pama International
PAMA INTERNATIONAL - The Altruistic Soul Sounds of…
Following up on their critically acclaimed **** Mojo album Love & Austerity and hugely successful Trojan Records songbook tour, which sold-out many regional shows and did 1500+ tickets (evening and matinee shows) at London’s O2 Academy Islington, Pama Int’l return with their much touted soul album - "The Altruistic Soul sounds of…” on their own Happy People label.
Since their formation in 2001 Pama Int’l have released 10 studio albums and recorded 4 BBC Radio One Maida Vale sessions. In 2006 they became the first new band to sign to Trojan Records in 30 years. The collective nature of the band has seen them work with; Billy Bragg, Ken Boothe, Rico, Derrick Morgan, Dawn Penn, Dave & Ansel Collins, Dennis Alcapone, Wrongtom, and Mad Professor, whilst their line up has attracted members from The Specials, Madness, Galliano, Steel Pulse, The Upsetters and the Style Council.
The album draws on songwriter/founder Sean Flowerdew’s love of Northern, British and Southern Soul and boasts influences of Al Green, Aretha, Otis, Betty Swann, Wilson Pickett, Joe Cocker, Duane Allman and Booker T & The MGs. In true Pama Int’l fashion the album sounds uniquely them. It is due for release in January 2019, when they will be touring the UK.
With early plays in for the album from the Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show on BBC Radio 6, where Craig stated “it’s just superb… believe me it sounds tidy” and a live debut at Alexandra Palace supporting Toots & The Maytals to 8500 people, The Altruistic Soul Sound of Pama International, looks set to usher in a beautiful soul era for the band.
