About Femme Schmidt

After signing with Warner in 2010, Femme got introduced to London’s well-known music producer and songwriter Guy Chambers. Originally, a collaboration was only planned for one song. Though, after several writing-session in the following month, she and Chambers ended up writing all the songs to her first self-titled debut album „Femme Schmidt“.

Whilst producing her record in London, Schmidt occasionally played at the Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, Chambers' live series of "The Orgasmatron - 21st Century Cabaret" and toured with the house band of Ronnie Scott’s. The musical director of the club, James Pearson, is also featured as a pianist on her debut album.

Schmidt’s first EP „Above Sin City“ was released in autumn 2011, which included a cover version of "The Velvet Underground - Venus in Furs" alongside her very own songs. For the title song of the EP, Sin City, the singer initiated a film award of the same name, in which 85 filmmakers from 27 countries participated; The jurors included Paul Verhoeven and Volker Schlöndorff. During this period Schmidt also toured as the opening act for Melanie C through Germany.

Her debut album appeared on May 18, 2012.

Schmidt achieved international attention beyond Germany and the UK after she played a few concerts in Los Angeles, as part of the Musexpo in April 2012. Following her concerts in LA, the young singer-songwriter was invited by Sir Elton John to perform as an opening act of his Arena Tour 2012 in Australia. In addition, she appeared on the Australian television show "The Morning Show on Channel 7" and on various radio stations in Australia. Also in November 2012, Schmidt supported Lionel Richie as a special guest in Paris. By invitation of Bavaria Film, she made a live appearance at the Cannes Film Festival.

On New Year’s Day 2013 one of Schmidt’s songs, Heart Shaped gun, was broadcasted on German TV by providing the theme song of the cult crime series „Tatort“. It was at this point that the singer first entered the German single charts.

In 2014 Schmidt dedicated herself mainly to songwriting and the pre-production of the follow-up album. After traveling for several months through the USA and Scandinavia in the hunt of new songs, she finally found a musical home at the Kensaltown Studios in London. In collaboration with Glen Scott, James Bryan, and Martin Terefe, she wrote and produced her second record „RAW“, which sounded much rougher and more energetic, without denying the roots in jazz, blues, and gospel.

While her second record was in the making, Femme Schmidt was once again invited to support Lionel Richie in Paris and Vienna. Shortly after, she accompanied Bryan Ferry as a special guest on his tour through Germany in 2015. The new album was finally released February 2016.

In September 2016, Schmidt delivered the theme song "Shape Of Love" for Karoline Herfurth's directing debut "SMS for you“, which reached #1 in the German cinema charts. "Temple Of Tears" was another Femme Schmidt song that was featured in the movie and the soundtrack.

Femme Schmidt was invited to open up for Coldplay, as a special guest on their "A head full of Dreams“ stadium Tour in 2017.

Since then the singer is working on her first indie Album called "The Luv Project", which will be released in 2019.

Femme Schmidt played over 150 live shows in Germany, Europe and around the world.
