About Redneck Souljers
The curious subgenre of "hick-hop" or "redneck rap" has been around for a while now, pioneered by artists like Bubba Sparxxx, Cowboy Troy, and Everlast, who ditched his original style for a more countrified folk take on his 1998 album Whitey Ford Sings the Blues. In recent years hick-hop has exploded in popularity, with rappers and country singers collaborating more than ever and new acts like Colt Ford and The Lacs topping the charts. Redneck Souljers (Fatt Tarr, and C-Hubb) are next up to bat, fusing contemporary rap stylings (skittering 808 drums, chanted choruses, Auto-Tune) with guitars, banjos, fiddles, and rhymes about farming, fishing, hunting, truck driving, and hard drinking. There's some compelling stuff here, especially the singles "Get Off My Land" and "I Mow, I Till." With their well-produced videos, catchy production, and surprisingly strong songwriting, these guys have the potential to be huge. With 11.5 million YouTube views, and over 3 million digital streams, The Redneck Souljers have come a long way since their parody rap video days back in 2009. Transitioning from comedy into true artistry after the release of their first original album, "Tiller Gang" in 2012, The Souljers, Fatt Tarr and C-Hubb have the following to prove that country rap, or as it's been termed "hick hop" is no joke.
