About Tide

The story began in the late 90s in Amsterdam, where the half of its current members lived and created music at the time. Namely, in 1998, Kevin Koradin left Slovenia for Amsterdam (Netherlands) where he was gathering experience as a studio musician. There he met the Danish “devilish” drummer Mikkel Brink. They were soon joined by Kenji Hino, a well-known Japanese bass player, whose father is a famous jazz player Terumasa Hino. Kenji worked with Kevin and Mikkel in recording of the demo tapes. Later that year, in Copenhagen, Kevin again met up with Mikkel, who had just finished his tour of Japan. A week of conversations and parties resulted in making of a new band. In shortage of bass players, Mikkel and Kevin talked Matej Batelič into joining them, and together they created a smashing trio. This was the official beginning of the band Tide.

Guys soon recorded a few demo tapes and in the heart of the hurricane season took off for South Florida (US), where they staged some concerts. After a short trip to New York they returned to Amsterdam, and focused on the recording of the material for their first album. When it was finished, Mikkel got homesick and returned to Denmark for good.

Kevin came back to Slovenia, where a new chapter for the group Tide began. After listening to the recordings, which were brought from Amsterdam by Kevin and Matej, another old friend took up the challenge, a guitar player Peter Kokotec. Matej also knew a young and talented boy, a drummer Gregor Jakac, who was only 19 years old, but he was exactly what the guys were looking for. He was taken aboard after auditioning for only 10 minutes.

Kevin Koradin and Matej Batelič both rocked together in the band “Revolver”, and were making hard beats for over half a decade, Kevin as the leading guitarist and songwriter, Matej as the bass player. Initially, Peter Kokotec was a member of a punk group “Valter brani Sarajevo”. Gregor had his first music experience with the predecessor of today’s “Mosaic”.

Shortly after, they received an offer from CPZ Rec., and 2005 released their first debut album “Seven Days” in September, which was later reprinted. Guys quickly drew attention to themselves and became a new rising rock group on Slovenian musical scenery, whose music and concert performance are genuine and a sin to miss.

They performed in practically all the clubs and important festivals in Slovenia, including Exit festival in Serbia in 2006. The first video “Release My Gun”, directed by Miloš Radosavljević and Tomi Horvat (Zavod AVK), frequently appeared on MTV Adria and was also included into the music charts World Chart Express – MTV Europe. It was very well received, but the second video “Evolution” did even better.

The concert hall tour with Siddharta and the video for the song “Brain Damage” proved once and for all that they are a big part of Slovenia rock scene. The promotion of the album “Seven Days” was concluded with the band being the opening act for IRON MAIDEN at Ljubljana stadium Bežigrad. In fall 2007, in Zagreb, the band was nominated in MTV Europe – New Sounds of Europe competition and performed live.

Tide’s second album is called “Nothing to Lose” (CPZ Rec.) and was fully recorded in Netherlands with established foreign producers, same as their debut album “Seven Days”. The rock quartet recorded the album during summer 2007 in Markant Recording Studios, in association with two producers, Peer Rave (Henry Rollins, Junkie XL, Urban Dance Squad, etc.) and Matthijs Van der Speck (worked with Lauryn Hill, Craig Ross, played guitars for Lenny Kravitz, etc.).

The album “Nothing to Lose” features 11 new songs, including a rock classic “Kick out the Jams” by MC5. This is an album that is bound to surprise, as it is very different from the first one. It is much more melodic, mature and attained. The first single from this album is the song titled “Waiting for the Rain”, soon to be a video as well. The single and the album are going to be presented with live performances in Slovenia’s most viewed TV shows. The main promotion of the album, with guests, is set for Thursday, January 24th 2008 in Ljubljana (Cvetličarna Mediapark) at 8 pm CET.

In their concerts, Kevin, Gregor, Matej and Peter are subdued to their dynamic, melodic and overpowering rock ‘n’ roll, but at the same time Tide is influenced by numerous other musical streams.
