About LAZRtag

What would it sound like if you took ¾ cups of distorted guitars, ½ a cup of funky basslines, a pinch of disco, garnished with some house music? The final result would be the Los Angeles-based-duo known as LAZRtag.

Since their early teens, both Vinh Chung and Erik Castro have been experimenting with electronic music even before they met. Born from bedroom producing/djing, they both began their journey separately to musical bliss. It wasn’t until summer of 2007 when these two young gentlemen found that they had more in common than their obsession with Star Wars, first-person shooter video games, and love for house music.

Vinh was a seasoned veteran DJ in the local club scene, known to many as Luvtek. Erik had been involved with band projects previously before forming his own solo moniker as StellarDrv/Addison.

Restless and eager to pump out tracks, these two jumped into the studio and began crafting their first series of remixes which gained seriously popularity on Hypemachine, Missingtoof, and other blog sites. Soon after, they were billed with Cut Copy at the Air Race Show in San Diego. At this point, attention for the duo grew immensely and the word “LAZRtag” began to echo to house lovers and hipsters alike.

As their popularity grew, so did the remixes. Their “Crimewave” remix for Crystal Castles hit the Hype Machine Zeitgeist list for one of the hottest tracks of April 2008. In early 2008, a collaboration to form the hit single “Work is Play” with Dani (Millionaires) led to widespread hype amongst fans worldwide. With tracks continuing to hit the 1 spot in the blog world, the duo soon began to play shows in Mexico, Canada, and neighboring states.

“We try to bring something unique and interesting to the table when we play our live shows,” says Vinh. Interesting is definitely an understatement for these boys. Boasting a unique duo laptop set up, they’ve eliminated the use of typical media players like turntables and CD-J’s. Instead, they offer a much more rich, interactive, and vibrant performance resulting in groundbreaking transitions and impressive effects using customized software and hardware.

In early 2009, LAZRtag signed with The Agency Group and soon after were picked up by Blood Company Management. The move will soon spark a series of global tours to take heighten their exposure to audiences across the world.

To date LAZRtag has been featured with the following acts: The Rapture, Moving Units, Steve Aoki, The Toxic Avenger, Cut Copy, Le Castle Vania, The Institubes, Kill the Noise, Villains, Wolfgang Gartner, DJ Irene, Charles Feelgood, Disco Villains, Frankie Bones, and more.

Stay tuned for their album which is scheduled to release by Summer of 2009.
