About Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros
Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros was Joe Strummer's solo venture after the break-up of The Clash and several years after his first solo effort, 'Earthquake Weather'.
Formed in 1998, they made 3 albums ('Rock Art and the X-Ray Style' [1999], 'Global A-Go-Go' [2001] and 'Streetcore' [2003; posthumous release]).
Joe Strummer died from a rare congenital heart defect on 22nd December 2002.
The single 'Mondo Bongo' recently featured on the movie Mr and Mrs Smith. A version of 'Minstrel Boy' (from 'Global-A-Go-Go') appeared during the credits in the movie 'Black Hawk Down', and more recently the track 'Johnny Appleseed' has been added as the theme song for David Milch's new HBO Series about a surfing family called "John from Cincinnati"
