Vienna Teng

Excellent singer songwriter at one of my favorite venues!

Vienna is one of those artists to whom one immediately gravitates. Her repertoire is solid and timeless ...in the vein of say, Sarah McLachlan or Tori Amos. Nonetheless, Vienna presents herself in such a sonically unique way! It's simply a joy to immerse oneself in her performance.

Vienna Teng is such an amazing artist. I have been following her for years now & keep being more & more impressed with her artistry, her commitment to social issues, her stage presence, & her stunning voice! She blew my mind by opening the set with my favorite song of hers, The Hymn of Acxiom. She was so genuine, funny, open, & generous with all of us. I could have listed to her for hours longer. If you get the chance to see her live, do it! She puts on a great show! I just wish I had been able to go back for night two, to hear whatever other wonderful things she played during that set!

One of the two greatest musical experiences of my life. The first was at The Ice House in Pasadena, seeing John Prine fifty years ago. The second—just days ago—was not watching but experiencing Teng at McCabe’s. Extraordinary. She does not merely perform songs; she inhabits other souls across space and time and then returns to us with their emotional evidence intact, translated, and transformed. That kind of artistry is not just rare. It is singular. If there is justice in the world of art and intellect, Teng is destined for a MacArthur Genius Grant. Michael Villanueva
