Whiskey & Women

Renee plays with a Celtic/zydeco band called Culann's Hounds. Joan used to play with a fabulous 5-piece all-woman country band called the Whoreshoes. Renee and Joan met at a gig, and realized that it was ridiculously fun to play music together, especially when there's whiskey around, or a street corner to perform on. Rosie is Renee's little sister, a veteran of the Oakland indie art scene, collaborator in dozens of bands from the Aimless Never Miss to Tallgrass, La Dee Da, Upside Drown and more. When Rosie started learning Cajun fiddle tunes, and the Whoreshoes broke up, and Renee realized that she needed more excuses to hang out with some of her favorite lady musician friends, the band Whiskey and Women was born. Their mission: to have fun, to sing great harmonies, and to prove without a shadow of a doubt that white girls have rhythm. Places they've played: The Fillmore Lounge (SF), the Starry Plough (Berkeley), Cafe Van Kleef (Oakland), the Blue Macaw (SF), the Oakland Metro Opera House (Oakland).
