About Old Rock City Orchestra
La band nasce ad Orvieto nel 2009 da un’idea di Cinzia Catalucci (voce e tastiere) e Raffaele Spanetta (chitarra). L’intenzione è quella di fondere le sonorità tipiche del rock delle origini, psichedelia, musica progressiva, blues-rock, il tutto arricchito da atmosfere classicheggianti e orchestrali. La line up è completata da Giacomo Cocchiara al basso e Michele “Mike” Capriolo alla batteria. La band suona in diversi locali del Centro Italia e partecipa a numerosi eventi musicali riscuotendo consensi e apprezzamenti. Alla fine del 2010 il gruppo registra un promo presso lo studio Doremilla di Magione (Perugia). Il lavoro, composto dal chitarrista Raffaele Spanetta e valutato positivamente in diverse recensioni (Saltinaria, Arlequins ecc.), vanta la collaborazione di alcuni musicisti classici, tra i quali il Maestro Laurence Cocchiara, inserito da anni nella scena indipendente italiana (Bernardo Lanzetti, Nobraino, This Harmony). Nel 2011 i brani degli Old Rock City Orchestra sono trasmessi in numerose radio e webradio nazionali ed internazionali, tra cui la radio statunitense Aural Moon che trasmette integralmente il promo della band nel corso del programma New Moon on Monday dedicato alle novità della scena progressive mondiale. Sempre nel 2011 gli Old Rock City Orchestra sono citati nel capitolo dedicato alla scena prog contemporanea del libro Rock Progressivo Italiano - An introduction to Italian Progressive Rock scritto da Andrea Parentin. Tra il 2011 e il 2012 la band completa la registrazione in studio del suo primo lavoro. L'album d'esordio, dal titolo Once Upon A Time, esce il 20 giugno 2012 per l'etichetta indipendente M. P. & Records (Rick Wakeman, Sonja Kristina, Bernardo Lanzetti, Le Orme, Pierrot Lunaire, ecc.) ed è distribuito in tutto il mondo da G. T. Music Distribution. Recensito anche dal magazine Classix! e dalla rivista olandese di musica prog iO Pages, Once Upon A Time è stato presentato ufficialmente il 29 dicembre 2012 presso il negozio di dischi Tarkus Records di Roma. Nell'estate del 2013 la band ha intrapreso un tour europeo che ha toccato Inghilterra, Francia, Belgio e Olanda concludendosi, infine, in Bulgaria con la partecipazione degli Old Rock City Orchestra al 18° Balkan Youth Festival di Sandanski. Nell'estate 2014 la band è opening act per Bernardo Lanzetti, ex-cantante di PFM e Acqua Fragile, nonchè voce storica del progressive rock internazionale e vincitore del FIM Award 2015 alla carriera. Nell'aprile dello stesso anno gli Old Rock City Orchestra tornano in studio per le registrazioni del secondo album, pubblicato il 30 aprile 2015 per la stessa M. P. & Records. Nel settembre 2015 la band partecipa al festival torinese Prog to Rock come opening act per lo storico gruppo italiano Biglietto per l’Inferno. Nel giugno del 2016 gli Old Rock City Orchestra partecipano come headliner alla Festa Europea della Musica di Laveno-Mombello diretta dal bassista degli Analogy Mauro Rattaggi. Nel novembre dello stesso anno il bassista Giacomo Cocchiara lascia la band che decide di proseguire come trio incidendo una versione in studio di Need, brano della band italiana Circus 2000. Nella primavera 2017 la band torna in studio per registrare nuovi brani e nell'ottobre dello stesso anno gli Old Rock City Orchestra si esibiscono in Inghilterra al Capstone Theatre di Liverpool. ----------------------------------------------------- Old Rock City Orchestra was formed in 2009 in Orvieto (Italy) by Cinzia Catalucci (vocals and keyboards) and Raffaele Spanetta (guitars). After common musical experiences in other bands the two founder members decided to start a new music project. Giacomo Cocchiara (bass guitar) and Michele “Mike” Capriolo (drums) joined the band and completed the final lineup. In 2010 the group recorded the first EP, also broadcasted on Aural Moon Radio (USA), and after good performances at numerous events and many Italian pubs and clubs the band completed the work recording four new songs during summer 2011. In the same year the music critic and writer Andrea Parentin mentioned Old Rock City Orchestra on Rock Progressivo Italiano. An introduction to Italian Progressive Rock. In June 2012 the band released the debut album Once Upon A Time under M. P. & Records. The album, showcased at Tarkus Records in Rome in December of the same year, incorporates progressive and psychedelic rock influences with classical overtones. Distributed by G. T. Music Distribution, Once Upon A Time has also been reviewed by the Italian magazine Classix! and the Dutch progressive rock music magazine iO Pages. In the Summer 2013 the band was involved in his first European tour (UK, France, Belgium and Holland). The tour ended with the Old Rock City Orchestra's participation in the 18th Balkan Youth Festival (Sandanski, Bulgaria). In the Summer 2014 Old Rock City Orchestra played as opening act for Bernardo Lanzetti (ex-PFM), one of the best singer in the history of progressive rock, FIM Career Award winner 2015. In the Spring of the same year the band recorded the second studio album, Back To Earth, released on 30th April, 2015 under M.P. & Records and distributed by G. T. Music Distribution. In September 2015 Old Rock City Orchestra took part in the Prog to Rock festival (Turin, Italy) as opening act for the Italian progressive rock band Biglietto per l’Inferno. In June 2016 the band was the headliner at "Festa Europea della Musica", directed by the Analogy's bassist Mauro Rattaggi.
