About DAMAS

Damas - Biography (1990–) Damas - is one of the most prolific neo-roots, reggae artist of the time. The singer is known for his breakthrough E.P, “Natty Take Ova,” and for his long association with the “Reggae Revival Movement” Synopsis Born Christopher Williams in Kingston, Jamaica - Damas is moniker as a co-pioneer of the reggae revival movement that emerged in the wake of the influence of Chronixx, Protoje & Kabaka Pyramid. Damas has been making a name for himself on the dancehall reggae scene since 2010. A series of successful singles, including "Rasta Universal Love", "Blood Shedding" and "My Life", brought him worldwide acclaim. Damas uses a strong political language with a religious overtone in his music, even though he often brings a comedic or controversial element to his lyrics. This type of contextualization , social commentary and wordplay is known in the reggae music world as "Reality Music" Early Life Born Christopher Williams - to parents Donovan Williams and Tancie Henry on (Dec 09, 1990). The artist grew up surrounded by musical influences, such as Dean Fraser and Sunny Bradshaw, and himself found his love for music at a tender age, also being exposed to the sounds of a neighbourhood sound system “The Mighty Emperor”, which promoted talents like Bounty Killa, Sizzla Kalonji and many more, artists who today stand predominant among a plateau of internationally recognized musicians. It is with such influences that Damas embarked on his own musical journey; in 2006, after completing his studies as a business student, Christopher aka Damas realized that his true passion was not for “sitting in an office and pushing a pen” , as is often stated in his own words, but rather for singing and performing. Over the years Damas has worked tirelessly to master his craft at recording and voice production. He has also placed a special emphasis on educating himself and others on the laws of the music industry and issues relating to the development of the artist and markets in which they operate. It clearly shows that his ambition to climb and reach his ultimate aim in life - which is to share his intertwined passion for life, love, and music with the world - is so positive that up and onwards is the only way for Damas to progress in this industry, and while doing so he has created for himself a huge fan base across Europe, USA, Canada and the Caribbean. Musical Career The 2010 debut single "Rasta Universal Love" marked the artist's early creative relationship with noted reggae artist and founder of the Reggae Revival Movement Alty "Lil J.O.E" Nunes. The single produced by Jahnoi "Selah" Nunes was a tribute to "Lil J.O.E" who died from medical reasons at the blossoming stages of his career. "Rasta Universal Love" not only generated some notoriety for Damas in his native Jamaica, but it helped to establish a fan-base for him in the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe. In 2012, he was discovered by the Italian-based reggae band Mellow Mood, who cited Damas's work as a major influence. He recorded the song "FREE MARIJUANA", and the band's popularity exposed Andy to a younger generation of fans, many of whom continue to seek out his earlier work. In early 2013 Damas released The Natty Take Ova (E.P), he signed record deal with Weedy G. Soundforce - a record label based in Zurich, Switzerland - becoming one of the first reggae artists to do so. Unfortunately, the sole project released under that deal, was not a commercial success—it seemed to include too many musical styles in an attempt to win mainstream acceptance. Since then the artist has released numerous singles while perfecting his craft on stage and harnessing his own unique sound. While on a promotional tour throughout Europe in 2014 - Damas established the "Natty Take Ova Ent" a company that focuses on production, merchandising and marketing his content. Damas has consistently recorded and performed around the world, and has remained relevant in reggae sub-genres such as roots reggae, rock-steady, lovers rock and dancehall. Damas - is one of the most prolific neo-roots, reggae artist of the time. The singer is known for his breakthrough E.P, “Natty Take Ova,” and for his long
