The Songwriter's Beat

Songwriter’s Beat is one of NYC’s premiere nights for performing songwriters, where all are encouraged to perform new material in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere. Founded by NYC singer-songwriter Valerie Ghent in 2000, Songwriter’s Beat has presented over 320 songwriters from around the world, over 50 benefit concerts, six annual festivals, dozens of songwriting workshops, started a song contest and has fostered the creation of hundreds of new songs. Every third Thursday of the month, four songwriters of varying musical genres perform original songs and are encouraged to try out their newest material and arrangements. The series culminates in a week-long Songwriter's Beat festival each July. Performers hail from the Tri-State area and across the United States, Canada, Cuba, France, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Australia, South Africa and Japan.
