The Band of Heathens

This was the 2nd sold out night at the Kessler for Hayes & Heathens -- a growing collaboration between Hayes Carll and The Band of Heathens. Save for a brief interlude when the Heathens took a brief break offstage (save for the keyboard player, the excellent Trevor Nealon), entire set consisted of both Hayes Carll and The Band of Heathens sharing the stage and trading off both Hayes Carll numbers and The Bank of Heathens numbers. The collaboration makes for an excellent set: the Hayes Carll numbers really stand out with the added layers of the excellent musicianship and vocals of The Band of Heathens, and The Band of Heathens numbers can focus on some of their standouts with the unique twang of Hayes Carll adding even more layers. The vocalists all complemented each other, and each had standout moments that highlighted their individual strengths as well as how well they all sang together. Really outstanding set for a highly engaged audience. Some of the standout numbers: "L.A. County Blues", "Jackson Station", "Look at Miss Ohio" (The Band of Heathens songs); "KMAG YOYO", "You Get It All", "Stomp and Holler" (Hayes Carll songs). The Band of Heathens is an excellent live band, with essentially two lead vocalists and lead guitar players who share the stage and complement each other very well, along with an excellent supporting cast. I highly recommend catching this band live whenever you can, and Hayes and The Heathens is a really excellent concert experience.

It was a great show! The Darts, a local warm up band kicked the night of with some great blues style music. The Band of Heathens is a very talented band and well worth seeing!

Great show put on by a great group of talented musicians. The opening set with Jamie Lin was Fantastic with a full band. She set the tone for a great night of music.

The Band of Heathens provided a great show as always - more jamming than usual, but it was great to see them relaxed and enjoying the Jester King atmosphere. Finishing set with 'Hurricane' was great!! Glad to see how many fans showed up to watch and that most of them stayed all the way through the encore. Jamie Lin was a nice opening act that set the tone for a very enjoyable evening under the stars!

Knew it would be good but was blown away. Been going to shows since I was 17 (over 40 years ago) and this was easily top 10. Don’t miss it

Fantastic as always! I took "Band of Heathens newbies" with me and they fell in love with them! Dosey Doe is a great venue, with great sound. Easy to get in and out! Can't wait for the Gruene Hall concert in May!

The BOH were amazing as usual, the new drummer and bass player were great as well. We had seats right next to the stage and could hear them great and see them in action. The opening act, Taylor Ray is a great singer and we would go to see her and her band again. It was cool that she came up and did a couple songs with the BOH. It was a great night of music.

One of the best concerts I've attended. It showed the span of BOH influence, as their friends joined them to perform- Jamie Lin Wilson, Bruce Robeson, Hayes Carll, Allison Moorer. The energy was high and the weather was phenomenal.

I absolutely LOVE The Band of Heathens, but tonight they were better than ever! The energy was contagious as they played favorite after favorite! This was my first visit to Buck's Backyard and it will NOT be my last! Great venue!

A top 2 all-time concert!!! (Second only to Prince in Minneapolis...sorry). Their albums do not do justice to the music quality and talent. The live version of Medicine Man was amazing and of course seeing Hurricane performed in a New Orleans venue with the crowd will not be forgotten. Already have tickets for the Kansas City show.

Great show. The Coolies were a good warm up and the Heathens put on a great show. I am not familiar with their music and went because I’d caught the lead guitarist in Asheville for Christmas Jam and wanted to check out his band. They were terrific! Great musicians and strong, well-written songs! I’ll be getting more familiar with their music soon.

This band starts of its tour at the top of their game!! An absolutely fantastic performance last night (4/17/2023). Excellent musicianship, excellent lead vocals by both frontmen and amazing harmonies throughout the night from everyone on stage.

So wonderful to see Band of Heathens in person again! I know they had issues with transportation and almost didn't make it! Thank you for your efforts.....because the fans all love you guys! Rock House is a great place for live music. Enjoyed the evening!!

Excellent show!! it was my first BOH gig, thoroughly enjoyed the band's songs and performance. The bass player fell ill 1/2 way through the gig but they didn't miss a beat - they figured it out in short order. Added a short acoustic set and then Ed Jurdi started playing bass - it was fantastic.

Awesome performance when I found out they were coming to my hometown I volunteered to work the concert and made sure to set up my companies booth as close as I could to the stage

Makes missing y’all live a little easier to take. Tuesday nights are my favorite now! Hayes Carll and then you guys..the best!! Really enjoy hearing Nicki’s contributions with Jesse too. Love her voice. Thanks so much!

The Band of Heathens were great. The venue was very laid back. Less like a concert more like a back porch picnic with great food and awesome music. The opening act were very good as well. The Olde Fish House is on to something special.

Great band, they seemed on point, the bassist seemed engaged and smiling (unlike other performances I've seen), great sound at Daryl's, great wedge salad, great bacon on a great cheeseburger. What an amazing evening.

realizing they released a new album...wanted desperately to hear songs I recognized. good show without the extra sound check...even tho the heathens show didn't start til well after 9 and my tickets said 7. at 7 they were still doing sound check for the first 2 local bands

Great show. Can't wait to see them again. I'd love to see them in a different venue though. One that is not a bar and more showcases their talent.
