About Ron Hynes

Ron Hynes is a Newfoundland-born singer-songwriter whose music is a blend of folk and country with the occasional and surprising taste of blues and rock thrown in for good measure. Singing actively in the folk music circuit for close to thirty years (Hynes was an original member of the Wonderful Grand Band in the 1970s), he is prominent in the Newfoundland, Canadian and even worldwide folk music circuits. Although perhaps best well-known for his song "Sonny's Dream," Hynes has consistently released albums that are skilled in both musicianship and songwriting. His newest self-titled release (2006) is perhaps his most soul-bearing and compelling to date, with songs such as "Bone Dry," "My Name is Nobody" and "Carry this Cross" that speak of an autobiographical pain that perhaps only a truly gifted songwriter can depict.

Ron Hynes was recently awarded the 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award from the St. John’s Folk Arts Council, and is currently touring the folk festival circuit in Canada and the United States.
