About The Soul Thieves
Hailing from the musical melting pot of Memphis, TN, The Soul Thieves mix their influences thoughtfully on their recently released debut EP Park Avenue. Recorded at Fiction Studios, in Memphis, TN, the EP includes singles like "12/8" and "Miss Cash" that set the bar high for their high energy EP. If you’re a fan of bands like The Black Keys, The Weeks, or Arctic Monkeys , then The Soul Thieves are your next fix. The power trio consists of front man Zach Gilliam, drummer Rusty Dodd, and bassist Darrian Balongie. Gilliam's penchant for melding twangy, yet heavy blues rifts define the TST sound. It's no struggle to recognize the feel of the Memphis blues flying out of his guitar strings. Former Memphis Youth Symphony percussionist Rusty Dodd pushes the band with his ceaselessly driving beats. Growing up listening to powerhouse drummers like John Bonham, Jack DeJohnette, and Stewart Copeland, Dodd managed to develop his own rhythmic style that evokes his influences without mimicking any of them directly. Filling out the rhythm section, Darrian Balongie's bass playing has been proven to have a mouth dropping, drooling effect on some. He is that kid from the suburbs that grew up on a steady diet Claypool, Wooten, and Flea instead of the typically accepted pop fare. The Soul Thieves have big plans to begin the second half of 2012, playing larger venues including the annual midtown Memphis Cooper Young Festival. They also plan to hit the road for a midwest tour in early October. Though they plan to continue to grow their fan base through extensive touring, the band is already looking forward to recording its next album. Sitting on a few unreleased tunes recorded at the legendary Ardent Studios (B.B. King, ZZ Top, Raconteurs), they have a full length album in the works. The new album, expected to be completed in the fall of 2012, will feature a variety of special guests and will be recorded at Black Wings Studios in Oxford, MS. Rock runs through their veins and the blues from their souls. Voice
