About Pet Virus
Hailing from the suburban Merseyside town of Huyton, a place that has produced Stan Boardman, Carol Decker, Phil Redmond, Steven Gerrard and Lee Mavers to name a few, Pet Virus are a fuzz-laden rock band with a very clear idea of how to create a ‘pure mess of music’, as they put it.
Describing themselves as ‘scrunge’; that is ‘scouse grunge’, the band formed from the proverbial ashes of former bands that include Enamel Animal, producing songs and a sound that is reminiscent of some of their favourite artists, with a gnarly Liverpool council estate twist. Drawing from the sound of heroes that include Nirvana, Holy Bible-era Manic Street Preachers, Alice In Chains and Kyuss, and mixed with the pop sensibilities of fellow Huytonians The La’s and 90’s favourites The Verve, Pet Virus bring a unique take on the genre that is simplistic in style & delivery, yet gratifyingly sweet & punchy.
Currently writing and recording with long-term recording cohort Jon Lawton at Crosstown Studios, the band will look to take their ‘fuzzy mess’ of songs out to the country and beyond, to see if audiences can make head and tail of what they are trying to do. Whether this will be possible or not, who knows, but it will probably be a laugh. At least that is what the band are hoping.
