About Pink Pompeii

In an effort to spruce things up back in early 2008, cellist Nan Kemberling painted a wall an atrocious shade of mauve and, in her haste, accidentally covered a trail of ants. By the time she noticed her terrible mistake, it was too late: the ants were petrified in rose-colored pigment. Fascinated by odd perspectives and burdened by the guilt of mass murder, she felt the need to write a song about it. That song was called “PInk Pompeii.” At the time, she and guitarist Rob Gal played the song in their folky, acoustic cello-guitar duo, Da Dum. In late 2009, itching for dancier beats and a broader sonic palette, they plugged in and recruited more collaborators. During this transition, they knew they would need a new name--one that reflected their macabre obsessions. Pink Pompeii was the perfect fit. Since their early days, they have electrified clubs and festivals across the southeast, while managing to record two completely original studio albums, De Rigueur (2010) and Pomp (2012). Today Pink Pompeii includes five musicians: Rob Gal (guitar/electronics), Nan Kemberling (cello/vocals), Cayce Buttrey (bass), Paul Melancon (guitar/electronics/vocals), and Al Porras (drums). A little dark. A little quirky Electronic. Symphonic.
