The word Mala-pe-ta-ka, literally means disaster. Its origin, from sanskrit pronounced as mahā-pātaka, defines it as "the resultant actions of greatly sinful activities" Hailing from Kuala Lumpur, The band started out in early 2010, with Ashok(Main Guitar) Abu (Rhythm Guitar), Boon (Vocal), Alias (Bass) and Azmer (Drums). Driven by their passion towards old school death metal and thrash metal, they began learning and practicing, mostly covering songs from Slayer, Kreator, Iron Maiden, Death, Metallica, Cannibal Corpse, Terrorizer, Napalm Death, and many more. After 2 years of practicing cover songs, they finally came up with their own songs, despite all the line up changes, struggles, trials and errors. Ashok takes on the duty to compose songs, inspired by the diverse eastern culture found vastly in Malaysia, mixed with old school thrash and death metal's aggression. The band is truly blessed and their hard work paid off when local organizers invited them to play live in early 2013. With all the tremendous supports from local metalheads and even other countries, Malapetaka are very thankful and appreciative towards all the opportunities given, to live their dreams of sharing their passion for thrash death metal with all metalheads, on stage and off stage. For Malapetaka has never been about fame or fortune. Instead, Malapetaka is all about Unity, Passion, Aggression, Friendship, Brutality, Inspiration, and Thrashing. On Sept 2013, the band released their first official demo, and currently is still working hard to improve, learn, create, reach out and looking to play live.
