About J-DOE

Today’s hip-hop artists are continuing to blur musical expectations and redefine the status quo of the industry. One talented musician leading this charge is James Smith born yet internationally-raised J-Doe. The Inglewood, CA native first jumped on the scene in 2003 and hasn’t looked back since.

The triple threat artist has quickly built a name for himself quickly as a rapper, producer and songwriter, having worked with some of today’s biggest names in the game.

The up-and-coming artist and piano virtuoso was first trained in production, learning the skills needed to be a top-notch producer from industry greats. From there, the self-professed “Mr. Better Than Whoever” began constructing his own mix tapes and working with a gang of Los Angeles based artists. Thanks to one of his mix tape MCs, J-Doe was encouraged to pick up a mic to test out his lyricism and hasn’t put it down since.

While perfecting his rhymes, J-Doe continued his songwriting throughout 2011 and wrote numerous stand-out compositions for some of today’s hottest artists, including Jamie Foxx (Yep Dat's Me, Sleeping Pill, All Said and Done, Let Me Get You On Your Toes), Tyrese (Stay, What Took You So Long, Fireworks), Kelly Rowland (Keep It Between Us) and David Banner (Dance the Night Away from the Footloose soundtrack).

J-Doe also featured his vocals on Banner’s ‘Swag,’ ‘Yao Ming’ and ‘Amazing,’ Gorilla Zoe’s ‘Twisted,’ Tank’s ‘Take You Outta Here’ and Fast Five: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack How We Roll (Fast Five Remix). He has also worked on Danity Kane’s ‘Damages,’ TGT’s ‘Sex Ain’t Never Felt Better’ and ‘Running Back,’ Ginuwine’s ‘First Time’ and ‘Busy’ as well as B Smyth’s ‘Legoo.’

In 2012, J-Doe started releasing his own music, including his most notable track Coke Dope Crack Smack, featuring Busta Rhymes, which has garnered more than 5 million YouTube views to date. His most recent feature is on Meek Mills’ chart-topping single, The Latest.

In June 2013 J-Doe dropped the first single ‘Reserve for the Fly,’ off his upcoming solo project Welcome To My Fan Club, which will be released in August 2013.

J-Doe is undoubtedly one of the next fresh artists on the rise who continues to blaze his own trail through the industry while being admired and inspired throughout his journey.
