About The Electric Playground
The Electric Playground is a hard rock band from the Metro Detroit area, consisting of Hunter Dixon (Bass), Chris Fichter (Drums), Matt Riesterer (Guitar), Andrew Fairgrieve (Vocals) and Jamie Mosshart (Guitar/Bass). The group attributes its sound to classic rock staples like Led Zeppelin, The Doors and The Beatles, as well as the gritty sounds that have been born in Detroit over the past few decades. “Coming from this city, bands like Iggy and the Stooges, the MC5, and the White Stripes, they had a huge affect on us,” says frontman Andrew Fairgrieve. “And anything that Jack White does – the White Stripes, the Raconteurs, and the Dead Weather. His ability to reinvent the blues has been an inspiration for us.” Since forming in 2009, The EPG has performed at venues around the state of Michigan, including The Majestic Theater, The Fillmore, The Emerald Theater, The Crofoot Ballroom, The Shelter, Smalls, PJ’s Lager House and both Arts Beats & Eats and The Stars and Stripes Festival. In October of 2010, The Electric Playground made their big screen debut in the Hillary Swank film, “Conviction.” Cast as a cover band from the mid 1980s, they appeared in the film as principal performers, and also recorded two songs which appeared on the film's soundtrack. In December 2010, the band released their first EP, entitled “Welcome to the Electric Playground.” The 5 track disc includes 4 original songs and a cover of John Lennon's “Cold Turkey.” In conjunction with the release of their new CD, the band released a music video for the 3rd track on record, “Like A Cigarette” which was directed by LA’s Zach Voytas. In June of 2011, The Electric Playground paired up with Detroit rock legend, Bobby East, who produced and recorded their 2012 release of "Your Eyes." Upon releasing this EP the Playground scored a gig opening for Detroit natives Mark Farner (Grand Funk Railroad), Mitch Ryder and Alto Reed (Bob Seger’s Silver Bullet Band). This sold out Filmore concert was a charity event to raise money for Goodwill and the people of Detroit. Long live Detroit rock music! Sad songs no one wants to listen to.
