About Megafon

MEGAFON: The sound of Anarchy and Witchcraft MEGAFON is an insane, musical story about mother madness and Balkan sax, fans from 17 to 80 and true love. Meet Danish/Norwegian MEGAFON: In front of the soundscape is Marte Schau's strong, and versatile vocals, elegantly wrapped up in Mikael Fleron's routined and playful saxophones, and groovy beats spiced from far and wide. The music oozes the anarchy arising from the intersection between jazz, Gypsy, Nordic folk music, and modern electronica. MEGAFON is avantgarde and party, chaos and control, past and future. Dance! Party! Live! True, Danish/Norwegian MEGAFON is more than an ordinarily constructed orchestra. But whether performing in front of young high school students on a street corner, at Distortion Festival in Copenhagen, or at a sold-out gig in the suburbs with an audience of 500 mature jazz experts with pipes and hats, the irresistible rhythms, Mikael's Balkan sax, and Marte's unique vocals make people want to dance and party. Copenhagen underground and jazz Marte and Mikael's musical melting pot began in the Copenhagen underground scene in the nineties. She was fascinated by Bulgarian music, had learned Bulgarian vocal techniques, and she hated the saxophone. He played saxophone, avantgarde jazz, and was inspired by Middle Eastern music. They met in a band that in the couple's own words “played a kind of ethno-electronic rock music inspired by Portishead”. The band lasted until Mikael stole Marte from the bass player. This marked the beginning of Marte and Mikael's long musical, geographical, and spiritual journey. New album out on Friday 13th June 2014 MEGAFON release their third album, ”TRISKAIDEKAMANIA” Friday 13th June. - The title is a rewrite of the expression triskaidekaphobia – a morbid fear of the number 13. MEGAFON are the witches of our time, but they will never burn on anyone's bonfire, because time and again, they face the fear of the unknown, and the fear of the mysterious, and thereby gain new musical heights. - Every 13th actually. The project is realized in a slightly different manner: Every 13th a new single will be published until Friday 13th June, when the entire album is released - the nine Singles + four new tracks - a total of 13 tracks. - And the media have shown their interest: Friday 13th September, MEGAFON was on the Danish the radio station P4 for, despite the date, a very nice interview and premiere of single number one. P1 in Denmark and Jungeltelegrafen in Norway have also given the singles from "TRISKAIDEKAMANIA" airplay. Quotes from the press “I can guarantee that you've never heard anything like it. MEGAFON plays with text and music in a wonderful way. Often total anarchy, yet everything is completely under control. You'll be dividing your life in two parts: "Before and after I heard MEGAFON”. - Hans Otto Bisgaard, journalist, DR ”The numerous musical ideas find their natural place in the whole of an album, that probably will appeal to fans of names like Valravn, Sorten Muld, or Norwegian Bel Canto”. - GAFFA, four stars to the album ”Hurra” ”The first time I heard MEGAFON was when I did the review of the program to By: Larm in 2011. And this year, among hundreds of artists, there was one band that amazed me, MEGAFON [...] I believe that MEGAFON will become world famous”. - Arne Berg, journalist, NRK Musically intoxicant ”The band MEGAFON led, with its boiling, sizzling, and primordial force of music, an obstreperous, inflammatory witch's brew of ancient Nordic, Gypsy, Balkan, Klezmer, Southern European, electronica, and hard rock, the audience directly on the dance floor. The Norwegian-born front figure, Marte Schau, struck with great primeval force and sensuality, as a music preacher, her tonal-sliding song, akin to the Gypsy and Arab singing techniques, out in the hall, while the arms, almost autonomous, danced their own, flaming narrative language of passions, desires, joy, wildness, power, and sentimentality. MEGAFON's music just beat in the blood, as intoxication.” - Stefan Andreasen, Nordvestnyt Quotes from the venues ”It was just such a super nice concert, where MEGAFON so much found their way out into all corners, and depths, with great dynamics, and a very fascinating singer in front! It is folk/world /electronica of the highest caliber. A show, that fascinated the very mixed audience, and also to the degree that got the crowd on the dance floor!” - Jens Rømer, Klaverfabrikken MEGAFON - the Nordic electro Gypsies ”The Nordic couple, who played the last concert on Friday night, captured the audience, even after four hours of concert. Some was standing petrified, as if they were struck by the ancient magic, while others danced into new dimensions. If MEGAFON is a new name for most people, Mikael and Marte, however, are experienced musicians and performers, which among others, have cooperated with Bjørn Svin, Trentemøller, Peter Peter, Frans Bak, Jakob Groth, and Flæskkvartetten.” - World Music Festival 09 /Global CPH MEGAFON go on stage wearing prom robe and Baritone ”After a brief, astonished, second the dance floor is packed, and in the back of the room are the listeners, adjusting, yeah yeah, it is okay, it is actually fucking cool, the hips must sway, and the feet take steps. Sensual vocals from all sorts of areas, Balkan poetry of obvious harmony, broken by equally obvious harmonic surprises. Here, the music that wants to be played, is played, we recognize something we've never heard before. This evening there are high ceilings in Rural Denmark.”- Tue Hjelmvig, Gimlebooking Facts about MEGAFON Band members: Marte Schau: Vocals, keys, Mikael Fleron: Beat, sax, keys Live musicians: Heidi Luke: Drums, Kaspar Luke: Bass Founded: 2008, DK/N Genre/s: Nordic gypsy electro Contact: +45 50 18 61 19 / mail@megafonmusic.com MEGAFON - Nordic Gypsy Elektro http://www.megafonmusic.com https://soundcloud.com/megafonmusic
