About The Shakes
(There is also another band called THE SHAKES who are from GLASGOW, SCOTLAND.)
Hot S.E. London four piece playing 3 ½ minute pop songs, The Shakes mix classic songwriting and catchy choruses with tough modern sounds, synths and electronic drums. It’s all in the mix of old and new.
The band have been mates since they were kids – Gaz and John are brothers. 3 years ago, the band bought themselves a hearse from a funeral parlour in East Ham and recorded their demo in the rock & roll Mecca of Brendan Lynch’s studio (Paul Weller, Primal Scream).
With a glowing review from Steve Lamacq and sold out headline shows at The 100 Club The Borderline and The Metro, they signed to Tough Cookie records in July 2005. Their debut single Goodbye New York sold out in a week. Their second, ’Liberty Jones’,(October 9th 2006) picked up plays on BBC Radio 2, BBC6, Xfm and on regional stations up and down the UK.
Next single 'I Want A Better Life' produced by James Lewis (Arctic Monkeys, Morning Runner, On-Offs) comes out on March 12 2007.
The Shakes music stares squarely down the barrel at the mainstream. And with a catalogue of songs this good and an army of fans this loud, it surely can’t be long before they’re up there mixing it with the best of them.
The Shakes have just launched the second in a new series of downloadable ‘radio’ shows in the form of ‘Shakecasts’, their unique take on the current podcast phenomenon. The ‘Shakecast’ includes live tracks, exclusive competitions, and brand new, never before heard tracks. In the last month alone the ‘Shakecast’ has racked up over 2500 subscribers, coming from as far a field as Romania, Turkey, Germany, Japan and the US, and, as word is getting around, subscriptions are growing at a rate of over 40 per day.
