About Amsterdam Station

It began with an idea. Three years of debate and obligation to a sound far greater than its members ever intended. This idea, to believe in something genuine and raw, has been the keystone in their attempt to create compelling music, drenched in human conviction. Amsterdam Station’s sophomore album, Stories from the Subtext, is a demonstration of the band’s collective maturity in songwriting since their previous album Lion Red(2011). The new album reads with a musical atmosphere that compliments the personal stories, triumphs and struggles of its muses; complex, rich, and ridden with ambition and loss. “The coalescence of our contrasting stylistic influences as a band has produced Stories from the Subtext, in a way that is purposeful and engaging for the listener. The songs on the album are dramatic and poignant moments of individuals’ lives, most of them personal, being told through the fusion of our musical styles." - Greg Jarvis The Atlanta, alternative-rock based band produced its new sound with the influences of many champions of the music industry in mind. The piano-driven anthems of “White Dove” and “Love is a Martyr” grip the listener with swelling build-ups and tight harmonies, while the band’s raw, rock nature reveals itself through the gritty guitars and vocals in “Warden”. Amsterdam Station formed at Georgia State University originally as an acoustic duo between Chris Connelly(guitar, vocals) and Greg Jarvis (bass, vocals, piano). Andy Potash (lead guitar) and Schafer Gray (drums), later joined the band to contributing to the fullness in sound the band had been searching for. The band played their first shows as Amsterdam Station in 2010, releasing their first EP, Lion Red, in 2011. Over the following years, the band began regularly playing shows at many Atlanta venues, including but not limited to: Smith's Olde Bar, Vinyl, the Loft, the Masquerade, and Hard Rock Café Atlanta, as well southeastern festivals like the Alle Greene Festival and Wolfstock. In the summer of 2012, the band released a music video to its first single "Zombie Killer", and has reached over 47,000 views on Youtube. The video was featured on Radio 105.7's website, and the song has received radio play on 105.7's “Local's Only” hour. If David Grohl moved to the South and started a band with Dave Murray from Iron Maiden, Marcus Mumford, and Ben Gibbard from Death Cab.
