About Mindset Defect

The Melodically driven metal band Mindset Defect has been taking the southeast by storm, sharing the stage with Helmet, Shadows Fall, God Forbid, Straight Line Stitch, Diecast, Almost Kings, Intronaut and Ekotren. Since their conception in 2005 Mindset Defect has worked diligently to bring something different to rock and metal fans. Their music stands apart with the innovative use of melodic vocals, dueling guitars, heavy rhythms and lyrics that can be both brooding and uplifting. Combined with an electrifying live show Mindset Defect shatters the dark image of the traditional rock band. Unlike most bands, Mindset Defect's four musicians equally participate in all aspects. Everyone in the band has a part in writing music, lyrics and the business side of things. Each bar of music the members write are extensions of their personality and are seamlessly woven into every song. Song-crafting is something they take seriously drawing from the greats of the past and present to create a sound that is unique. "Crisis Reborn" their 2005 demo CD garnered them airplay on Nashville's number one rock station, WBUZ, during The Local Buzz and afternoon drive time. Their single "Tragedy", regularly requested by fans, earned them a nomination for Best Hard Rock/Metal Act for the 2006 Local Buzz Rock Awards. In 2007 they followed the success of "Tragedy" with "Paint the Sky", the first single from their EP "Device". They ended the year as the 9th most request band on the Local Buzz and earned two nominations for Best Hard Rock/Metal Act and Best Guitarist for the 2007 Local Buzz Rock Awards. Mindset Defect continued to build moment in 2008. Their single "Device" was discovered on the internet and chosen to appear on the November/December issue of Metal Edge Magazine's compilation CD. An achievement proving that they were making waves in the metal community nationwide. As the year came to a close Mindset Defect was the 4th most requested band and ended with a expansive number of nominations for the 2009 Local Buzz Rock Awards. Of their six nominations they walked away with Best Guitarist, Best Drummer and the prestigious Band of the Year. In April of 2011 Mindset Defect brought home three awards from the Music City Mayhem awards for Best Metal Drummer, Metal Band of the Year and Comeback of the year. In 2012 they repeated their success winning two more Music City Mayhem awards for Best Metal Drummer, and Best Live Metal Band. Mindset Defect has been a featured artist on www.freedomtorock.org and artist of the week at Rusty Cooley's Guitar Asylum website. In March of 2012 Mindset Defect beat out 21,000 bands to be selected as one of 86 finalists around the globe to compete in Hard Rock Cafe’s Global Band Battle. In 2012 Project Independent named Mindset Defect as one of the top 5 unsigned Hard rock/Metal bands in the United States after they participated in the Project Independent National Showcase. Their relentless work ethic has been noticed world wide and has gained them sponsorships from SPAUN drums, KRAMER guitars, Scymtek Cymbals, Silverfox Drumsticks, IN TUNE Guitar Picks, and S.I.T. Strings. "Device" the current E.P. from Mindset Defect is touted as their best effort to date. However, with the addition of vocalist Jason Carroll, a new realm of possibilities has been realized. The melodic influence Jason brings to Mindset Defect has propelled the band to a new level of diversity and energy. Jason's style is unique and his focus is to transcend rock and metal cliche's and breath new life into Mindset Defect’s constantly evolving style. The future is bright indeed for this heavy rock quintet. "There is a reason people respond to Mindset Defect. They ROCK! It's the perfect storm of melody, in-your-face metal and killer guitar riffs. That uniqueness and energy comes across in the recording and translates perfectly in their live show. Absolutely mindblowing!" - Aljon Go, Gibson.com, former radio host WKDF/WBUZ The Melodically driven metal band Mindset Defect has been taking the southeast by storm; bringing a new direction to the genre.
