About Nacosta

Formed by brothers Brandon Graham (vocals, guitar) and Shane Graham (drums, percussion), Los Angeles based indie rockers Nacosta (pronounced: “Nuh-coast-uh”) cultivate a unique blend of rock, folk, moody atmospherics and psychedelic sounds. Growing up with a guitar-playing father, while still young the siblings listened to classic rock – Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Beatles, Pink Floyd and The Stones. After getting their first musical instruments as teenagers, they began honing their own skills and jumping into songwriting. Brandon remembers, “Right away, I had the songwriting bug, and from there on it has always been about chasing songs. Songwriting is interesting because you could sit down and hammer out a song, or, better yet, once in a while inspiration hits and you chase after the song, grab it by its tail and then try to describe it as accurately as you hear it.” Eventually, in 2011 the Graham brothers joined forces with their complementary musical esthetic and similar musical influences including Elliott Smith, Tame Impala, Radiohead, My Bloody Valentine, Bob Dylan, Sigur Ros and a general love of 60s psychedelic rock and fuzzed-out 90s noise pop. Nacosta’s debut album, “Under the Half Moon,” was a musical collaboration with electronic musician and producer Christian Gibson. In early 2014, the siblings expanded their lineup to include a full touring band, adding Jace McPartland (bass), Marc Agostini (guitars, vocals) and Ian McLaughlin (keys, guitar, vocals). The five piece went on an extensive US nationwide tour throughout 2014 in support of the debut record. “Once we started touring behind the album, we all were aware of our chemistry, our affinity to extend instrumental sections and to harmonize off of each other. We knew that the next record had to feel and sound like a real live band, not the product of a studio, but of a working band. It also had a lot to do with going back and listening to bands like Wilco, Television and Grateful Dead, and really appreciating the musical relationships those bands had within their sounds,” explains Brandon. Nacosta has currently returned to the studio to work on its sophomore album with UK producer Phil English (Feeder, Biffy Clyro, McFly, The Coral). The band is scheduled to release an initial double single “Ballad of the Whistler / Little Thieves” in Spring 2015. The two initial tracks were recorded almost completely live with only a few small overdubs. Both tracks will be included on – and give a taste of the diversity of – the upcoming full second album release in early Fall 2015, which will include songwriting collaborations with all five Nacosta band members. +++++ “Soaked in more atmospherics and imbued with complex textures, [the band] sounds more in league with sonic sophisticates Kiev and the Moth & the Flame than the straight-ahead nu-gazing of Nacosta’s early stages.” -Kevin Bronson, Buzz Bands LA nacosta.com
