The Curtains

The Curtains are Ex-Deerhoof bassist/guitarist Chris Cohen's latest project. They are a three piece signed to Asthmatic Kitty Records.

They make smart but sparse lo-fi folk-pop with minimum of effort but maximum effectiveness.

The Curtains recorded their first record, "Fast Talks" with Thin Wrist in 2000. At this point, The Curtains were
Chris Cohen, Trevor Shimizu and drummer Jamie Peterson.

In 2002, the line-up changed to Chris joined by drummer Andrew Maxwell and synthesizer player Greg Saunier. They recorded "Flybys" together in 2003, which was also released on the Thin Wrist label, followed by "Vehicles of Travel," released on Frenetic Records in 2004. This formation of the Curtains disbanded, and Chris and Greg focused on Deerhoof.

Whilst playing in Deerhoof, Chris Cohen continued with The Curtains by himself, and started work on "Calamity." He was eventually joined by several guests performers on the record: Nedelle Torrisi and Yasi Perera on harmonies, and Half-Handed Cloud/Illinoise-maker John Ringhofer on trombone. "Calamity" was released on Asthmatic Kitty Records in 2006, and The Curtains will be touring the US in a 3-person line up January 2007: Chris, Nedelle (gtr/vox), and Annie Lewandowski (kbds/vox).
