About Tom Wurth

There are words that resonate with Tom Wurth. You will hear him talk about “staying constant,” being “real” and “natural.” They resonate in the songs he writes, those he chooses to record and in every aspect of his career.
It isn’t that Tom Wurth does not embrace change and growth. He has experienced a lot of that musically as he met milestone after milestone in his career. At the same time though, he believes that music can be a “constant” for most people and they crave consistency from an artist.
Whether you sit down to talk about his career, where he has been, where he is going; or listen to the lyrics of each song, you will know his commitment to that real and natural music. It is music you can count on with every song and at every show.
The new album A Different Soul shows that commitment. There are deep roots that brace this album. Roots from his small town up-bringing to his musical roots that are evident with the collaborations found on this new project which includes Vince Gill, T. Graham Brown and John Ford Coley.
Out of the gate, at only twenty years of age, Tom Wurth was nominated for a Grammy. That particular milestone built a foundation for his career. The Grammy experience fresh in his mind, Wurth pushed forward with his songwriting aspirations.
Wurth initially signed as a staff writer with Belden; later signing with one of the largest publishers in the world, BMG Music Publishing. At BMG he garnered two major record label cuts including; “If the Road Runs Out,” appearing on This is Ty Herndon – Greatest Hits and a Ken Mellons cut, “I Can’t Kick My Country” for a NASCAR compilation, Inside Traxx.
Tom Wurth found the best school was on the road playing and in the studio recording. He took to both and never looked back. He has shared a stage with some of the most respected and successful artists in music including
Vince Gill, John Ford Coley, T. Graham Brown, Eddie Money, Larry Gatlin and The Gatlin Brothers, Lonestar, Billy Dean, Ronnie Milsap, Rascal Flatts, Billy Currington, LoCash, Pam Tillis, Mel Tillis, Thompson Square, Marty Stuart, Tim Rushlow, Trick Pony, Clay Walker, Tony Coleman & many others.
“I’ve known Tom Wurth for several years. I’ve always appreciated his friendship and what I’ve always admired was his professionalism. As we say in Alabama – he’s a hard charger. (He’s a) great entertainer, and one of the true inspirations in this business!” – Marty Raybon
In 2006 Wurth signed his first record deal, recorded and released his first album on Aspirion Records. The first release from Tom Wurth, “Bread On The Table,” reached the top thirty on the charts as well as earned a spot on CMT.com for the single’s video. Wurth’s next two single releases (“Good Ground,” from the album Tom Wurth and “If The Road Runs Out,” from If The Road Runs Out) also enjoyed top thirty chart status.
"Tom Wurth is a three-way hitter. He's a tremendously gifted vocalist and artist and a Grammy nominated artist. Tom has a genuine love for the song, strong and memorable melody-tunes that people can sing along with. Tom is truly a gifted singer with a style all his own. I think you'll love what you hear.” - John Ford Coley
This quote may well explain the feelings both peers and fans have about Tom Wurth and his music. What you hear on Tom Wurth’s records are exactly what you will hear on stage. No smoke, no mirrors just great music.
“Some time ago Vince Gill finished performing and sat next to me backstage ... I have the same remark about Tom as I said to Vince, "You did more with just you and a guitar than the act that preceded you with a full band. This is a wonderful talent that should be a much bigger name because he understands what it means to get up on a stage and perform. A wonderful talent.” – Sandy Smolen
Tom Wurth crossed paths with famed rocker Eddie Money leading to a friendship and several collaborations. Money asked him to produce a special project, The Other Side of Money. Wurth took on the project bringing in John Ford Coley to co-produce the project with him. The album included a remake of Money’s song, “Gimme Some Water” and featured Vince Gill. For Tom Wurth’s new project, A Different Soul, Wurth and Money once again collaborated, along with Scott Soderberg, with their co-write of “Back On The Highway Again.”
“Every once in a while, someone comes along that has the quality, that believability tone in their voice with a simple but honest emotion, like he’s talking late at night to his sweetheart in a quiet driveway. It’s a gift. Tom Wurth has that gift. – Eddie Money
In 2012, Wurth signed with TaDa Records recording the studio album, Midnight Rain. The album brings together Tom Wurth’s soulful blend of country with his trademark additions of R&B and gospel. Midnight Rain was featured on iTunes New and Noteworthy right off the presses. Singles from the album included, “To Love Somebody,” and “Diggin in The Dirt.”
For Tom Wurth, music isn’t just a vocation, it defines him as a person. If he isn’t crafting a new song, out on the road singing or in the studio recording his own music he often takes to the studio as a producer. His latest project is with John Ford Coley. Coley’s latest album, Eclectic, is a 26 song collection co-produced by Wurth and features Vince Gill, Collin Raye, Jamie O’Neal, Georgia Middleman and T. Graham Brown.
Yet, there is nothing Tom Wurth would rather be doing than singing. This past year and a half he has devoted everything to the making of A Different Soul. There is no “fast forward” to this latest project on TaDa Records.
It is part of his artistic progression and builds on his musical roots. A Different Soul has quickly become labeled “a different style, a different sound.” It is not “different” for Tom Wurth, but gives that same “constant” fans have come to expect from his music. But, it is music different from anything you have heard before.
The project includes a song he will say “defines him.” “Where I Belong” was written by Wurth with Vince Gill and features Gill on vocals and guitar. For Wurth it is another milestone in his career. Right next to that is another Wurth co-write, “I’m Gonna Build It,” that has his soulful vocals paired with those of another soulful singer, T. Graham Brown. John Ford Coley also appears offering his talents with background vocals on two songs on the project, “Once A Lover (Always A Friend)” and “Let’s Make Love.”
A Different Soul is produced by T. W. Cargile (who also co-produced Wurth’s Midnight Rain) and Tony Coleman (former B.B. King drummer for thirty years).
“In my lifetime as a musician, I have had the opportunity and honor to work with the world’s greatest soulful singers – Otis Clay, Bobby Blue Bland, Johnnie Taylor, Etta James, B.B. King and others. Tom Wurth is one of those soulful singers that I can add to that list. The first time I heard him sing I knew immediately I had to work with him. I’ve had the pleasure of co-producing him on his latest recording, A Different Soul. I consider his voice and singing to be as soulful as those great artists I’ve worked with and grew up listing to whether jazz, blues, country or R&B. I know people from all over are going to like, A Different Soul just like I do.” - Tony Coleman
