About Zu
Stubbornly free from any genre classification, Zu proudly follows
their musical path for over twenty years.
They questioned and evolved their musical identity, developing their vocabulary at each record release, without ever letting their creative freedom be suffocated by imposed labels.
All their strongest inspirations and artistic landmarks have given rise to a very varied production.
From the album Bromio in 1999 to the last Terminalia Amazonia in 2019, Zu's musical language has changed a lot, however their essence remains the same.
Throughout their history the band has cultivated the art of collaboration, joining forces with real music legends such as Mike Patton, Damo Suzuki of Can, Mats Gustafsson, King Buzzo of Melvins, David Tibet of Current 93, FM Einheit by Einsturzende Neubauten, Thurston Moore by Sonic Youth, Jim O 'Rourke, Peter Brotzmann, Eugene Robinson by Oxbow, Gabe Serbian by The Locust, just to name a few.
With the album "Carboniferous", from 2009, they reach the status of a cult band worldwide.
Carboniferous changed not only the Zu, but the whole trajectory of a substantial part of "noise rock", in evident lack of a better term. Ten years have passed since that record, and that of that water under the bridges that seems all new, again.
Jacopo Battaglia has returned behind the drums, recomposing as well as the original trio which has become a quartet in 2019 with the entry of guitarist Stefano Pilia.
Thousands of concerts worldwide and 18 albums later ...
