About Jason "Cornbread" Baker

"Jason Baker is a clown in a gentleman’s suit. He is always dressed to impress in a tweed coat and flat cap. He laughs a lot. He’s silly. But his Southern drawl is the real kicker." --Amber Grubb A seventh-generation Floridian and native of Fort Meade, Jason started his professional career in the entertainment industry as a radio show host in Okeechobee, for WOKC’s afternoon drive-time show as well as host of “Yard Sale Saturdays” while playing fiddle for local bluegrass bands. Through the referral and advocacy of fiddle player, Gary Mackey, of Dolly Parton’s album Hungry Again, Jason was able to audition for the Pigeon Forge, TN attraction Elwood Smooch’s Ole Smoky Hoedown, where he was given the job of staff fiddle player in the band, and gradually worked into personality work in the show where he was mentored and given the character name of, “Cousin Cornbread” by the show’s star, former Hee-Haw cast member, featured clown for The Greatest Show On Earth, and International Clown Hall of Famer, Billy Jim Baker. After a time at the Hoedown, Jason was offered a job by the longtime, well acclaimed show, Country Tonight Theatre, where he worked as the fiddle player in 2006, while also performing as the substitute fiddle player at Black Bear Jamboree in Pigeon Forge, TN While performing in Pigeon Forge, Jason began an interest in audio engineering and production through the mentoring of Junior Mercer, a former pedal steel player for the Johnny Paycheck band and a featured performer at the International Steel Convention, as well as Walter Haines, former VP of A&R for MCA Records in Nashville--owners of Moments of Madness Studios in Sevierville, TN After budget cuts at CT, Baker interviewed for and was employed by the Maggie Valley wild west theme park, Ghost Town in the Sky, where he initially worked as the assistant to the entertainment and technical director until a restructuring that led him back to the stage as the comedian and fiddle player in the Silver Dollar Saloon show, performed 6 times daily at Ghost Town. After Ghost Town’s bankruptcy in 2010, Jason decided to move back to his native Florida to complete his college education, where he completed his Associates of Arts at Polk State College in 2013 and is currently pursuing his B. S. in Music Management at Florida Southern College, where he has served as President of the Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association and is a member of the national musician’s fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
