Backup Johnny brings a fresh and original sound to a genre that has since become cookie-cutter. Their unique song writing has been described as mini-movies, taking listeners on a melodic journey of entrancing harmonies and power-driven bridges, leaving their audience singing for more. Backup Johnny's first endeavor, titled Heartaches and Hangovers, was a wide success both locally and in the surrounding cities. From their humble roots in Bakersfield, CA, their emergence on the scene opened doors quickly to spread their music up and down the California coastline. Their music was quickly featured on college music stations, as well as appearing in several music magazines. Their sequel album, titled Dive, provided yet another boost to their already growing audience and exposure. The album was a success, branching out to territories not yet released to previously. The band took their first national tour spanning across the US, from California to Nashville, TN. Although the band experienced some cast changes, it has never slowed or stifled the momentum that they had worked hard to achieve. Backup Johnny is led by frontman Joey Romley (Vocs/Keys), who provides a strong lyrical presence that shapes the storylines of the music. Marty Whiteley (Guitar) and Kenny Reeves (Bass) provide the solid supporting cast needed for such deliverance, with paramount attention to detail and consideration. Brett Mallard (Drums) brings to the stage bombastic energy that provides the plot solid ground in which to stand. Over the years together, Backup Johnny has honed their style and craft, ever-evolving and making each production different from the last, while staying true to their original script.
