Baertman

Baertman is the project of pianist Pieter Baert (1972) and drummer/beatmaker Jan Heirman (1994). Their music moves between jazz, improvisation, and contemporary electronics.
Pieter Baert has built a versatile career within and beyond the jazz and world music scene, collaborating with artists such as Stef Kamiel Carlens, Teun Verbruggen, and SonBacàn. He has performed on international stages, including Carnegie Hall (New York), and developed a lyrical, sound-oriented piano style centerd on improvisation. His music is rooted in tradition but constantly seeks out experimentation. His solo album Tinten was released in 2021.
Jan Heirman developed within an urban and electronic context through projects such as M.CHUZI, Okkupeerder, and MeyanDR. He works with beats, textures, and live electronics, always leaving room for spontaneity.
In Baertman, improvisation forms the starting point. Compositions emerge from interaction and dialogue. This is handmade music. The generational gap between the two musicians is not a contradiction, but a driving force. Baertman sounds energetic and urban, yet at the same time vulnerable and spiritual — a quest for nuance, layering, and connection in a time of sharp viewpoints.
