About フーテン族

フーテン族
Formed in 2021, this five-piece rock ‘n’ roll band
Futenzoku is a young band hailed as the true successors to “Jacks,” “Murahachibu,” and “Les Rallizes Dénudés”—bands known as “New Rock” during the late 1960s and 1970s, when Japanese rock ‘n’ roll was at its coolest.
Their sound is anything but formulaic—it’s fiercely innovative yet imbued with the atmosphere of Japan’s Showa era. Their intense psychedelic blues rock will make your eardrums buzz, giving you the sensation of time-traveling.
The band is characterized by a poetic world expressed through lyrics with a venom reminiscent of Shuji Terayama, twin lead guitars, a vocalist who sings with white-painted face and strange movements like a character from Japanese underground theater, and a rhythm section whose inorganic, clunky rhythms conjure images of the Showa era’s seedy underbelly.
It is a band with a strange charm—distorted and aggressive, yet feeble—as if Yura Yura Teikoku had taken the stage at a circus.
