About Acolyte

Acolyte
Formed in 2018, Acolyte are an experimental four-piece whose genre-defying sound draws on jazz, trip-
hop, and prog rock. Their live performances blend immersive soundscapes with storytelling, hypnotic loops,
harmonic depth, humour, and existential motifs. The band is led by award-winning poet, artist and spoken-
word performer Iona Lee, alongside Ruairidh Morrison (looped bass), Gloria Black (synths and vocals,
formerly of Maranta), and Daniel Hill (percussion). Acolyte’s single Warm Days In December was
released by Lost Map in December of 2025, and was included in The Guardian’s ‘Add To Playlist’. March saw
the release of their next single, Moon Disaster, accompanied by a short film made by artist Laura Meek.
Together with their Lost Map debut single, The Blue Dark, these tracks will feature on Acolyte’s forthcoming
debut EP, due in May. Previous releases include The Black Cat, which was named BBC Radio Scotland’s
Single of the Week in 2021.
In summer 2025, Acolyte premiered Production Line of Dreams at Edinburgh’s Hidden Door Festival: a
site-specific performance created in collaboration with dancer Suzi Cunninghamd and audiovisual artist Eve
King. The work fused loops, field recordings, poetry and movement to explore rhythm and repetition, digital
disassociation, and human imagination in the age of artificial intellgience. It received widespread critical
acclaim, earning a five star review from The Scotsman, which described it as “hauntingly gorgeous”.
