BERENA

BERENA is a six-piece Neo-Soul and RnB collective carving a distinct path through the Liverpool music scene. Born from the creative melting pot of university life, the group has developed a sound that is as difficult to predict as it is impossible to ignore. By pairing classic jazz and soul harmonies with the expansive, large-scale production typically reserved for contemporary pop and rock hits, BERENA creates a sonic experience that feels both familiar and refreshingly
avant-garde.
The band’s identity is anchored by lead singer Josie Lomax, whose classical training allows for intricate, contemporary vocal runs that weave through the instrumentation. This is bolstered by the rhythm section of Daud Kay and Tom McNally, who infuse the group’s sound with prog-rock grit and Latin flair. Guitars from Sam Devonport and Isaac Tingay provide depth through experimental textures and blues roots, while Charlie Corry’s command of jazz keyboardbharmony provides the group's striking melodic foundation.
With a style reminiscent of a collaboration between Olivia Dean and Herbie Hancock, BERENA challenges the listener by contrasting pop-leaning vocals with complex harmonic structures.
Following the success of their debut single ‘Just a Boy’ and their self-produced 2025 EP On-Set, the band continues to push boundaries on stages across the UK.
