I’m Doniel Berry, a pianist and composer working at the intersection of jazz and Jewish musical tradition. My work is shaped by the sounds I grew up with — from the haunting tones of High Holiday melodies to the joy and dissonance of Eastern European folk songs. I blend jazz improvisation with motifs, modes, and rhythms pulled from liturgical chant, nigunim, and centuries of cultural resilience.

Every performance is different — not just improvised, but responsive. To the space. To the people. To the echoes of where we come from.

I’m interested in what it means to make Jewish music today — not only through instrumentation or nostalgia, but through creative process and reinvention.
