About Klaudius Kováč
Klaudius Kováč is one of Slovakia’s most respected jazz pianists, known for his lyrical touch, rich harmonic sense, and deep roots in the jazz tradition. Over the decades, he has become a central figure of the Slovak jazz scene — both as a performer and as a mentor to a younger generation of musicians.
His playing flows naturally from stride and swing through bebop and hard bop, while always staying personal and contemporary. As a composer, Kováč blends heartfelt lyricism with rhythmic drive, heard in pieces such as Jazz Mood, Childhood Memory, and Claudia.
In 2025 he released the duo album Two Boddies with his former student and now long-time partner, saxophonist Martin Uherek. The recording captures their rare musical chemistry in an intimate dialogue of eleven tracks, including original compositions and jazz standards, culminating in the fully improvised title piece.
Whether on stage or on record, Klaudius Kováč’s music carries honesty, depth, and a lifelong dedication to jazz.
