Cairo Steps

Cairo Steps is a German-Egyptian music ensemble founded in 2002 by Basem Darwisch, an Egyptian-German oud virtuoso and composer. The band uniquely blends oriental rhythms, Sufi traditions, jazz, classical music, and modern sounds to create a cross-cultural musical dialogue between East and West.
Their mission is to transcend cultural, political, and religious boundaries, building musical bridges between Europe and the Middle East.
Cross-Cultural Fusion: The group regularly collaborates with musicians from Egypt, Germany, and other countries, combining jazz improvisation with oriental melodies.
Awards: In 2018, Cairo Steps and the German band Quadro Nuevo won the prestigious German Jazz Music Award in Gold for their album Flying Carpet.
