About Masšh
Masšh is a cutting-edge electronic music artist based in Johannesburg, South Africa. He defines his unique style as “astral”, inspired by the concept of astral projection—a term from esotericism describing a conscious, willful out-of-body experience. His sound blends dark classical influences with immersive tone and atmosphere, layered over rich African grooves, favoring emotional depth over conventional structure or rhythm.
In 2021, Masšh was selected as one of only ten participants in the BridgeFire Talent Accelerator Program, hosted at Flame Studios by Nando’s. That same year, he composed original music for the MaXhosa SS22 fashion show, showcasing his ability to merge fashion and sound. The music was scheduled for release through his own imprint, Solar Plex’s, in spring 2022.
Notable performances in his career include:
Basha Uhuru Festival
Mixmag The LAB Johannesburg (supporting act)
Kunye Festival Pretoria Edition, curated by Shimza
Masšh’s work has received support from respected figures such as Âme, Dixon, Laolu, Desiree, Caiiro, Shimza, Sun-EL Musician, and consistently features on Black Coffee’s Spotify playlist. Tracks like “iLanga” and “Nisikilize” reached the #1 spot on DJ Loyd’s "The House Connect" on 5FM, with “Nisikilize” also named among Kid Fonque’s Selective Styles Best of 2020.
Masšh has released music on esteemed labels including Nervous Records (USA), Gondwana (Kenya), Stay True Sounds (South Africa), Madorasindahouse, and Aluku Records (UK)—with more to come as his career continues to rise.
