About Oriol Marès & Talal Fayad Quartet
Oriol Marès & Talal Fayad Quartet is a fusion project that bridges cultures through a shared musical language. Clarinetist and composer Oriol Marès from Barcelona, rooted in jazz and Latin traditions, and Syrian oud player and composer Talal Fayad explore the meeting point between their distinct backgrounds, crafting a sound that blends Arabic modal traditions, Latin polyrhythms, and jazz improvisation, drawing inspiration from Anouar Brahem and Paquito D'Rivera.
The journey began in Utrecht through Culture Shock, leading to performances at renowned festivals such as Grachtenfestival and the International Chamber Music Festival Utrecht, as well as a feature on Dutch national radio NPO2 and Catalunya Musica.
Evolving into a full quartet with Andalusian drummer Lucas Zegri and Greek double bassist Thodoris Ziarkas, the project has deepened its sonic identity, shaping an organic conversation between diverse influences, leading to their debut album, crafted during the International Residency in La Marfà (Girona) last September 2024. Premiering at the showcase Fira Mediterrània in Manresa, propelled the quartet towards a 2025 release tour across Spain, Italy, The Netherlands, as well as a next residency and performance at Centre Nationale de Creatione Musicale (VOCE Corsica) as a selected project within the Rawabet (Ettijahat) program.
