Dvrkworld

Dvrkworld (pronounced Darkworld) is an emerging shoegaze/psych-rock/doom-pop band hailing from Lutruwita/Tasmania.

Initially formed in early 2023 by Mary Shannon (bass/vox) and Drew Farrant-Jayet (guitar/vox), the pair’s long-time friends and collaborators Shawn Arnold (drums) and Ryan Unger (guitar) quickly jumped on board to complete the lineup.

Blending elements of garage-rock, dream-pop, psychedelic-rock, shoegaze, and grunge, Dvrkworld create a lush sonic soundscape characterised by reverberant melodies, rich-fuzzy guitars, and flowing, rhythmic undercurrents. Taking inspiration from artists like Mazzy Star, Ride, The Black Angels, Swervedriver, and Slowdive, Dvrkworld have been described as “...one of the most exciting bands coming out of Australia at the moment” (Arun Kendall, Backseat Mafia).

Throughout 2024, Dvrkworld’s first four singles - ‘Lotus’, ‘Bonnie’, ‘Apraxia’ and ‘Sinking Ship’ - received extensive airplay across Australian community radio, including key stations Edge Radio, PBS, 4ZZZ and 2SER - with ‘Bonnie’ spending two weeks in the #8 spot on the AMRAP Regional Charts and the band scoring a feature in AMRAP’s 2024 Wrapped editorial. Dvrkworld have also garnered international airplay and rotation adds on RDU, Radio One, North Manchester FM and DKFM, as well as playlisting by The AU Review, The Underground Stage and Good Intent.

Early in 2024, Dvrkworld had the privilege of opening for internationally acclaimed psych-funk luminaries Unknown Mortal Orchestra at Nipaluna/Hobart’s Odeon Theatre, after being scouted by DarkLab Music Director Kimberley Galceran. The band continues to build a steadily growing presence in the psych-rock scene locally and nationally, with plans to tour Tasmania and New South Wales this Australian autumn in support of their debut EP.

Dvrkworld’s debut self-titled EP is set for release on the 28th of March, 2025, through Psychedelic Salad Records.
