Singer-songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist, Mei Li blends her vibrant Reunionese multiculturalism with international sounds to create her magic, as an independent and self-produced artist.
Born and raised on the vibrant island of Réunion, Mei Li writes from the heart, in both English and Creole (Réunion), sharing her adventures from the perspective of a Creole woman exploring the world and questioning some of its rules.
Her sound is the most raw and captivating form of her creativity. She plays, sings, records, and produces every track. No autotune, ever. No label. Just pure, authentic MeiLi-ness.
Mei Li studied both classical and jazz piano, and self-taught other instruments and singing, and performed in jazz, pop and Reunionese cover bands in France, Réunion and Tasmania before releasing her debut album, Ballad’ (2021), a collection of original music that captures her eclectic influences and personal sound. Since then, Mei Li has been studying traditional Reunionese percussion at the Conservatory, performing her original songs on stage with her band, and working in the studio on new songs and collaboration projects. Occasionally, she also composes and arranges music for external projects.
