Cat Crash is an indie punk riot grrrl band from Connecticut. They bring a new spin to riot grrrl through an all-trans, AAPI lens. They are led by frontperson singer/bassist Cecil Yang (they/them), joined by Brett Cornball (he/her) on guitar and Briar Chung (she/they) on drums. They have influences from midwest emo, early 2000s pop punk, 90s grunge, and of course riot grrrls of the past and the present. In 2025, they plan to release their debut album. Marcie!, SB, Illicify, and Cat Crash are all just as talented of performers as they are incredibly kind people! The energy and passion they put into their music was radiating through everyone in attendance at Fuse Bistro.
I’ve been to quite a few punk shows over the years, but none come close to capturing such a genuine ethos of DIY, inclusivity, and community through the shared struggle under capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy, and bigotry in all its forms. I am a firm believer that the riot grrrl and folk punk scenes are among the few vanguards of genuine punk virtues, and this show has solidified that belief permanently in my heart. The sounds may differ but the soul is all the same!
Thanks to Bubbleteagrunge for putting this whole thing together. My socks were blown completely off!
