About The Lonesomes

The Lonesomes
Australian-based The Lonesomes are set to captivate with their latest single, ‘Locket’.
The new track dives deep into the raw sentiment of giving one's everything to another, only to find that the feeling it’s not reciprocated.
Frontman Matt Callan articulates this emotional journey, explaining, "It's about when you give your all to a person and it’s taken for granted, that feeling like your heart and soul have been sold for parts."
The evocative theme of the song is further underscored by its cold aesthetic, both in the track’s production and its striking music video.
In ‘Locket’ The Lonesomes venture beyond their established post-punk sound, drawing inspiration from unexpected genres such as EDM, drum and bass (DnB), and hip-hop.
This departure from their traditional influences—like Joy Division and The Cure—marks a
deliberate effort to infuse their music with fresh, innovative textures. "We knew whatever we made would still sound like us," explains Callan. "We wanted to experiment beyond our usual comfort zone and explore styles people might not expect from us. While the classic post-punk influences remain, we’ve broadened our palette to keep things different. We don’t want to be that band that just releases the same song 100 times, So we try and keep each release different from the last which keeps us on our toes."
This adventurous spirit follows the band's 2023 release, "Self Destructor," which was
celebrated as their most genre-diverse track to date. With its pulsating synths and edgy
drumbeats reminiscent of The Prodigy, "Self Destructor" showcased The Lonesomes’
willingness to push the boundaries of post-punk.
Now, with "Locket," the band continues to challenge genre conventions to create a track that is both distinctive and true to their roots.
The Lonesomes have built a reputation for electrifying live performances, sharing stages and festival bills with a roster of Australian icons, including The Chats, Bad Dreams, Ruby Fields, Mini Skirt, and Dune Rats.
As they continue to push the envelope with their experimental sound, "Locket" promises to further solidify their status as one of Australia’s most exciting up and coming and genre-defying bands.
With its hauntingly cold production and innovative blend of influences, "Locket" is set to be astandout addition to The Lonesomes’ increasingly renowned discography. Fans and new listeners alike will find themselves drawn into the band's uniquely crafted world, where heartfelt lyricism and boundary-pushing experimentation combine.
The Lonesomes joined forces again with Gold Coast producer George Carpenter on the track, known for his work with Delta Riggs and Drug Cult,
The song’s sound also shines thanks to the help of enlisting industry figurehead Joseph Carra, who has worked with King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, to add the finishing touch with his mastering.
As they gear up for their East Coast Australia tour starting October 6, the band is buzzing with excitement. “We’re looking forward to sharing this new material and hitting the road,” says frontman Callan. He adds that they plan to shake up their setlist, focusing on new tracks that showcase their evolving sound.
With a mission to connect with fresh audiences, The Lonesomes are ready to deliver an electrifying live experience.
