About The Niche Family
The Niche Family, originate from Rutherglen, Scotland and Toronto, Canada. Former members of the Glasgow Freak Folk ensemble, The Hoojamamas, (Harry & The Hendersons) brothers Stuart and Andrew Neil joined up with Lauren Thompson to form the band following an impromptu jam session that arose from the celebration of Stuart and Lauren's wedding in 2021.
The trio focus on close vocal harmonies and strong songwriting drawing from Folk, Americana and Country influences.
The Niche Family performed their first show filling in for an absent Coolio at Eden Festival in 2022. They have supported up and coming Scottish artists such as Alice Faye and Sam Shackleton in Glasgow and Edinburgh respectively.
Recently, The band has expanded their lineup to include Aberdeen folk singer Adam Thom on banjo and Paisley born multi instrumentalist Timmy Alan enriching their live performances. They have just completed their debut EP due to be released in 2024. The group also performed their inaugural headline show on 20 October 2023 to a sold out audience at the Glad Cafe in Glasgow, Scotland. Their debut single, 'Mercy Me', was released on 13 October 2023 to glowing reception and was even featured as 'Single of the Week' on BBC Scotland Radio.
