The Ancient Rule

For The Ancient Rule, the key ingredients are simple: musical patience brings musical payoff. After nearly a year-and-a-half of collaborating, experimenting, and listening to one another, The Ancient Rule arrives with original offerings not found in the local fare. Formed in 2022 by JR Sorrells (drums) and Mateo Sánchez (guitar/vocals), The Ancient Rule started their journey along Washington’s lower peninsula, recording and sharing ideas near Ocean Park. After meeting J.T.B. (bass/vocals) in 2023, their momentum allowed them the opportunity to relocate to Astoria, Oregon, thanks to the support of bands like The Other Numbers, in addition to the generosity of The Columbian Theater. Combining their influences, like TOOL, Periphery, Primus, and many more, The Ancient Rule’s only desire is to share their tonal palette with the masses. With the arrival of their debut EP, Dismal Glitch (2024), comes new, progressive artistry from the Pacific Northwest.
