About Shueh-li Ong

Shueh-li Ong
Shueh-li is best known for her unique fusion of electronic-pop-rock-jazz, incorporating her favorite sci-fi instrument, the theremin, along with synths, tin whistle, piano, guqin, and sound design. Her music represents a poignant blend of ancient art and new technology, seamlessly merging Eastern and Western influences.
She has written, recorded, and produced three CDs under the Xenovibes moniker and two under her own name, including the much-awaited release "MissOriented Metaphor." Australian-born Shueh-li (Shelley), known as Singapore's diva of the theremin and Nashville's Queen (according to the Straits Times and Nashville SCENE respectively), has drawn comparisons to self-produced artists like Kate Bush and Janet Jackson. However, her sound remains uniquely her own.
Shueh-li's theremin playing also appears on the multi-Grammy-winning album "La Conquista del Espacio" by Fito Páez. As noted by S. Fortner for Keyboard Magazine, "Ong kicks out some seriously textured, intelligent, emotional originals on theremin, synth, and wind instruments at Moogfest (2019). By herself, she sounds like Yoko Kanno teamed up with Peter Gabriel to join the Buggles."
Shueh-li is also the founder and leader of the band Xenovibes.
