About Tommy Crawford

Tommy Crawford is a Vermont-based actor, multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and Drama Desk Award-nominated composer. Tommy co-founded acclaimed folk band The Lobbyists. With them, he has been nominated for a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Music in a Musical alongside Sara Bareilles, Steve Martin, and Andrew Lloyd Weber and written songs called "marvelous" (New York Times), "terrific" (New Yorker), and “enchanting" (Entertainment Weekly). His latest project is The Vermont Farm Project, a new actor-musician musical commissioned by Northern Stage developed from over two years of interviews with people farming in Vermont and New Hampshire. Since becoming a father in 2020, Tommy increasingly writes music for kids. He plays original songs and traditional folk tunes in venues around New England and New York. His live shows are known for his humor, strikingly original songwriting running the gamut from silly to gut-punching, skillful playing and singing, and connection with an audience. His work and background in theater and as an actor make him a natural storyteller, giving an arc to each show — playing is not just a “gig” to Tommy, but a way to meaningfully connect and commune through music. “Crawford is an engaging songwriter and a talented multi-instrumentalist, and both are evident in abundance on Athena and the Moon.” - Chris Farnsworth, Seven Days VT

“'Sing Me Silence, SeaWife,' is the most haunting of the show. Starting with a simple, lovely melody, it moves through rich chord changes and swells with stunning harmonies. This piece reflects the aesthetics of The Lobbyists at their very best, and I know of few other groups today who can match their range of expression.’ - Nantucket Inquirer and Mirror
