About Robert

Crafting and performing as Robert since 2019, and born and raised in multi-cultural West Bromwich, UK. Music became a saviour that tore him out of the street life that was giving way beneath him, and planted is feet firmly on stable ground. Giving him a sense of purpose other than the ego-driven path he had learnt from those around him, and allowing him expression through art, not violence, which at the time felt the only option available. His sound resonates with influences from The Fall, Sonic Youth, Blur, John Parish, Aldous Harding, Raekwon, PJ Harvey, Lana Del Rey, FKA Twigs, Nirvana, Kool G Rap and Lee Hazelwood. He is no slave to a genre, and his style proves this. Robert recently got signed to Tricky's (Massive Attack) label and has a release due in the summer. The album features work from Grammy nominated and 2x mercury prize winning John Parish (PJ Harvey), Billy Woods, Roc Marci, Tricky and Maverick Sabre. His most recent album was played on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6 by Giles Peterson and Huey Morgan. It featured Rag 'n' Bone Man, Sleaford Mods, Soweto Kinch and others.

He formed a band last year to initially play his music live, but it has morphed into something special. Robert & The Pills play no genre music, but if you had to name genres, it would be post-punk/alternative hip-hop/grunge/spoken word and jazz. Their live show is emotive, intense and described by many as giving goosebumps.
